Abstract

|
Cosmosin¢ç(Cefuzonam Sodium, L-105), a new broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent, was administered to 30 patients, with proven microbial infection in surgical field, including intraabdominal infection, wound infection, biliary infection and soft tissue infection fro, Feb. 1 989 to May 1989. Most patients received daily 2 g doses of Cosmosin¢ç for at lea- 4 days.
Prior antibiotics in patients receiving Cosmosin¢ç were used in 22 patients, and Cosmosin¢ç. was used initially in 8 patients.
The overall clinical response rate was 90% (27 of 30 patients).
The bacteriologic response rate was 76.6% (23 of 30 patients). Adverse reaction occurred in one case, but none were serious.
Elevation of serum aminotransferase was observed in 5 cases of patients, and elevation of
serum creatinine was observed in one case of patient. Cosmosin¢ç is effective for the treatment of intra-abdominal infection, wound infection, biliary. infection. and soft tissue infection
in surgical field.
